Lifelong Sport
Good morning, everyone! Dr. Glen here with your Monday Morning Motivation. I hope you’ve all been enjoying the Olympics as much as I have over the past couple of weeks. Watching these incredible athletes compete at the highest level is not only entertaining but also incredibly inspiring.
As I watch, I can’t help but marvel at the potential within each of us to achieve great things. The variety of sports and athletes, from power lifters to sprinters, to badminton players, reminds us that there’s a perfect sport for everyone, regardless of our body shape or size.
For the adults tuning in, let this be a reminder that there’s no excuse not to get active. We all have different body shapes and sizes, but there’s likely a perfect sport out there for each of us. Don’t simply follow what your friends are doing; find what you’re meant to do, something you will enjoy and thrive in.
For those of you with children, I often get asked what sports to encourage kids to get into. While martial arts and gymnastics are great options for balance, coordination, and strength, I’d also like to touch on the concept of lifelong sport.
Lifelong sports are activities your child can continue throughout their life. While gymnastics is fantastic for young children, you don’t often see 30- or 40-year-olds practicing their routines at the gym. On the other hand, sports like swimming, running, cycling, golf, bowling, or team sports like volleyball and basketball are easy to continue throughout one’s life.
So as we move towards the end of the year, let’s use the Olympics as motivation. Let’s make a resolution to incorporate more physical activity into our daily lives. It’s never too late to get started, and remember, every step counts towards a healthier you.
