Registered Massage Therapy

Soft Tissue's Best Friend.

Registered Massage Therapy in Nanaimo.

We are thrilled to announce that Julie Rizzuto, RMT, is now accepting patients at The Wellhouse!

Thank you for choosing The Wellhouse as your choice for Registered Massage Therapy. Registered Massage Therapy can help you reach your health and wellness goals by increasing your postural balance, improving your sleep patterns, and reducing stress. Massage treatments by an RMT can provide an improvement in your general sense of wellbeing which can help you feel more comfortable in your body. Because your physical wellbeing can be affected by your mental and emotional health, massage treatments to your body can also affect and improve these areas as well.

Unlike relaxation massage, which uses a light touch, an RMT is trained to more fully understand the body’s muscular structure, soft tissue, and nervous system allowing them to treat specific conditions and concerns. With these clinical outcomes in mind, some treatments can include some manageable discomfort in order to elicit the desired change. Your RMT may use other healing modalities as well, including myofascial release, and craniosacral therapy.

Massage Therapy is a physical, hands-on therapy that addresses the soft tissue structures in your body: Muscle, Fascia, Tendons and Ligaments. The depth of pressure given is completely individualized from light relaxation to deep therapeutic pressure.

Payment and Insurance Coverage

Because RMTs are considered primary contact health care providers in BC, referrals are not required. RMT is considered a supplementary benefit and a portion of up to 10 visits per year may be covered by MSP for those who meet the eligibility requirements of receiving premium assistance benefits. Coverage may also be available through your extended health care plan provider. If your physician has referred you for RMT services due to injury, other coverages may be available through ICBC, WorkSafeBC (WCB), or organizations such as the RCMP  or Department of Veteran Affairs.

Payment for services is required at the time of your appointment. Receipt is provided so that you can submit to your extended health care provider. Reimbursement for any fees paid is an independent matter between you and the provider of your individual insurance coverage.

What to expect for your first visit.

During your first visit, we will begin by talking about your particular health concerns as well as your typical activities and lifestyle. Your assessment includes an evaluation of your range of motion, and orthopedic health which allows us to have a more holistic view of your personal wellness. We can then choose the best treatment plan.
Allow plenty of time for your appointment to reduce any unnecessary stress.

Your treatment takes place in quiet room to ensure both privacy and comfort. After your consultation you’ll be given time and privacy to undress, and get settled onto a comfortable massage table which offers a warm safe place to relax. The blankets and pillows help you to stay that way, so that there’s no need to feel self-conscious at all. Treatment time is typically 45-60 minutes and begins with a check-in with you, continues with hands-on massage, and ends with posture and exercise education. This information is provided to help you take control of your health, so that your body can heal more quickly.

The number of visits you’ll need to receive the healthy benefits of massage will depend on your particular needs, and will be discussed with you during your appointment. RMT appointments are available for children but parents should be present for first intake as to help communicate more clearly the current ailment of the child.
