Nutritional Counseling

Supporting Family Nutrition

Yes, we offer nutrition advice via our naturopathic physicians at The Wellhouse too! Naturopathy recognizes the integration of nutrition, exercise, and lifestyle and their combined impact on health, making it a perfect fit for our integrated wellness approach. Naturopathy is a combination of traditional health care modalities, remedies, and practices that contribute to your overall well being. These healing modalities can benefit and heal specific conditions, as well as prevent illnesses. A naturopath has an extensive knowledge of nutrition and understands how the body benefits from foods. In contrast to conventional medical treatments, a naturopath will look to nature and how the body responds naturally to a given compound to introduce treatments that promote the body’s natural ability to heal. A naturopath looks at a person’s health from a holistic view point to a wide range of  things into consideration such as diet, lifestyle, stressors, activity levels, engagement, enjoyments, and expression into consideration. Treatment recommendations that affect the balance of these factors can include:

  • Dietary additions or restrictions
  • Detoxification therapies
  • Lifestyle changes to reduce stressors
  • Counselling therapy
  • Physical activity or specific exercises
  • Herbal and dietary supplements

Benefits of Good Nutrition:

Naturopathic treatments can benefit a wide range of symptoms and conditions, and most start with the very basic building block of nutrition. At The Wellhouse, we focus on the importance of nutrition not only for individuals but for your entire family. Today’s busy lifestyle can make it easier to “grab something on the way” than to find the time to plan nutritious meals and enjoy them together. What can make it even more challenging is that each person in your family is unique with different tastes. One persons’ reaction to food can be significantly different from someone elses’ depending on their age, their activity level, allergies, sensitivities and more. Multiply that by the number of different schedules under one roof and you can see why nutrition is such a challenge for today’s families.

Nutrition is the building block of a healthy family, and kids that grow up in a family that recognizes the value of making healthy eating choices have a definite health advantage for the rest of their life. Yes, eating healthy can be a challenge, but we’re here to help.

What to expect on your visit.

When you arrive, our receptionists will ask you to fill out an intake form. The information will ask about your general health and will list some symptoms you might be experiencing that can be influenced by the foods that you eat. This assessment can help the naturopath to determine a plan of dietary requirements unique to you and to your family members. The consultation is typically 60 minutes for the first visit as we work toward the initial steps of planning a nutrition path that works for you.

Knowing which foods your body thrives on just might just be the most important thing you learn. Our naturopath will ask you about the foods you’re currently eating, and how frequently you eat them. Then, they’ll make recommendations that will introduce you to new foods and possibly change the frequency of others. Some foods may need to be replaced altogether, eaten at a different time of day, or in a different combination. You’ll learn more about food ingredients, what they are, and why they’re important.  You’ll also learn more about modified foods, additives, preservatives, which ones to avoid, and how certain foods and herbs can aid the body with all of it’s various tasks and functions including:

  • Building strong bones
  • Building and maintaining strong teeth
  • Building muscle
  • Providing and storing energy
  • Maintaining healthy hormone levels
  • Maintaining healthy skin

It’s empowering to learn that you can improve your family’s health and protect them from illness by simply learning to select and prepare healthy food choices.
