Mental Emotional Congruency

Good morning, beautiful souls! It’s Dr. Glenn here with another dose of Monday Morning Motivation.

We’ve been talking about genetic congruence over the last few weeks, a topic too big to cover in just one video. Today, we’ll delve into the mental and emotional environment aspect of it.

Hunter-gatherer Lifestyle

Genetic congruence is the philosophy that we’ve evolved for a specific set of environmental factors. The closer we can keep our bodies within that environment, the more they will express optimal potential and health. The best example we have of a genetically congruent environment is the Paleolithic era, 10,000 to 50,000 years ago. We want to mimic that hunter-gatherer lifestyle, especially when it comes to our mental and emotional environment.

The hunter-gatherers had three key elements in their lifestyle: strong communities, clear roles within those communities, and a strong sense of a greater power or entity beyond themselves. These principles are still relevant today and can significantly impact our mental and emotional wellbeing.

Living Like Our Ancestors

Having a strong community is crucial. It allows us to process our emotions naturally and prevent suppressing them, which often leads to stress and anxiety.

In the Paleolithic era, people had clearly defined roles. Today, many of us juggle multiple roles, which can lead to stress and anxiety. Simplifying our lives and focusing on a few key roles can help us manage our stress levels better.

Lastly, having a sense of a higher power can provide a broader perspective on life. It can instill a sense of purpose and create boundaries, allowing us to step back and view our daily lives from an outsider’s perspective.

Think about your upcoming week. Instead of focusing on the long hours of work ahead, think about how you can serve your community. This shift in perspective can infuse your week with a sense of purpose and positive energy.

Take some time this week to reflect on your mental and emotional environment. If it’s not congruent with what it should be, consider seeking help. Registered clinical counselors can provide preventive mental and emotional health support.

Remember, true wellness involves both physical and mental wellbeing. Let’s strive to create an environment that promotes both. Here’s to a healthy and happy week ahead!
