Welcome to the Chiropractic care team at the The Wellhouse!
You are in good hands! Our team will listen fully to your concerns, perform an in-depth examination, and provide you with our best recommendations to help you reach your health and wellness goals.
Whether you are 100 years old looking to stay fit and active, 45 years old and needing to get back to work, or bringing in your brand new baby for a wellness check, you can be sure our team of chiropractors is committed to helping you achieve your health and wellness goals.
“This family fun practice is the most caring wellness practice I have ever encountered. The Chiropractors focus on the whole body and health in their assessments and show genuine care for their clients. We started seeing Dr Glen for our son who was fussy. After just a few adjustments we were seeing significant improvements. Now our whole family goes on a regular basis and we have never felt more at ease in our bodies. Can’t speak highly enough of this great practice.”
Because We Know You’re Wondering…
What does a Chiropractic adjustment do?
An adjustment does so much more than treat a specific symptom like back pain, neck pain, or headaches. In fact, you could say that going to a chiropractor just for pain relief is like robbing a bank and only taking the pens. A proper adjustment, delivered by a wellness minded chiropractor, restores normal and optimal function to your body. And when your body is functioning optimally you can imagine the improvements you will see. Along with pain relief our patients typically report improvement in areas as varying as improved quality of sleep, increased energy, lowered blood pressure, improved vision, greater focus at work, and the list goes on. As our founder says, “Health needs no help, only no interference”.
What conditions is Chiro most helpful for?
Although our ultimate goal is to focus on prevention and wellness care our patients typically present with the following symptoms of ill health: Pregnancy-related back pain or headaches, adult back pain, sciatica, tension headaches & migraines.
I’ve heard you see a lot of kids at The Wellhouse? Why?
Today, we find more parents bring their children to chiropractors for the hundred and one little and big things children go through as they grow up. It is important to remember that although many of our little patients find relief from these ailments, this is never the focus; a pediatric chiropractor’s aim is to reduce nervous system stress.
Why are there so many pregnant women visiting Reed Family Wellness Centre?
Pregnancy is the most natural process a woman’s body can go through. Today, we live in a world where there is a lot of fear around this beautiful time in a mom and dad’s life. Biomechanical changes to mom’s body during pregnancy are inevitable. Chiropractic care helps to restore the balance in mom’s musculoskeletal system, making her feel more comfortable physically.
What makes you a wellness centre?
A wellness model expects more than a pain-free state of being. It strives for continual growth and balance in areas of emotional, physical, and social wellbeing in order to more fully reach the human potential. As such, our Nanaimo chiropractors incorporate all areas of well-being into their patient care. These include but are not limited to education and advice on topics such as stress and anxiety, nutrition, movement, exercise, workplace health, and family dynamics. Only through the incorporation of all of life’s factors can we expect to be fully well.
What is so special about your Integrated team based approach?
An integrated, team-based approach to health care can have many facets, each offering patients different paths to their goal of achieving optimal health & wellness. From the most basic level (practitioners sharing office space) to the highest level (multiple practitioners working together to create, implement, and monitor your unique treatment plan) integration offers you a more comprehensive approach to your health. At our chiropractic wellness centre, we offer our patients ALL levels of integrated care! Our practitioners feel strongly that it is our responsibility to inform you of the choices you have, the pros and cons that come along with each, as well as our recommendations, but we always respect that your health is your responsibility, and your choice is always the best choice!
What is with the popping noise?
Good question. It is certainly not your bones cracking or rubbing together (which is the thought we hear more than you would think). It is thought that the popping noise is due to gas being released from the change in joint pressure during an adjustment, much like opening a can of soda. It is not heard with all adjustments and is not thought to be associated with any therapeutic effect.
What are the risks associated with Chiro?
A very important question for sure. With all beneficial treatments there are also risks.
The risks are very minor with chiro as it’s one of the safest interventions that exists. Most common risk or side effect that people experience is some achiness or soreness following a treatment – similar to when you work out at the gym or go for a bike ride, walk or run for the first time in a while. Your doctor will thoroughly go through these with you during your appointment.
Is a Chiropractic Adjustment rough, aggressive, light or gentle?
All of the above actually. Our Nanaimo Chiropractors have a variety of techniques available, all with their own unique benefits. Although no one technique is better than another, there will be one (or a few) that is best for your unique body or concern. This is one of the most important parts of chiropractic treatment and we take great effort in ensuring you receive the adjustments that you are most comfortable with and are most effective for you.
Is there any link between chiro and someone having a stroke?
To the best of our knowledge, there is no research that supports the link between chiropractors and strokes. Because of the nature of individuals who seek out chiropractic care, this including individuals with headaches, neck pain, dizziness, nausea, migraines etc., chiropractors, in general, see a larger percentage of the population of people who are having a stroke in progress. Chiropractors, like medical doctors, spend years in school mastering human anatomy, physiology and diagnosis and have the ability to recognize the signs and symptoms of a stroke in progress to ensure the safety of each and every patient that enters the clinic.
Can you help someone with Osteoarthritis - even when it is really bad?
Of course! Chiropractors are trained in a wide variety of technique systems and work with the individual to design a plan of care that is going to work to help that individual meet their goals. With the aid of various instruments, we can deliver safe and effective adjustments and treatments to patients with even advanced arthritis.
Once you start seeing a Chiropractor do you have to keep seeing them?
This is completely false! You are in charge of your own health and will be empowered to make your own decisions. The truth is, you hire me and you fire me. That being said, many patients, myself included, see the benefit of ongoing chiropractic care and CHOOSE to maintain a wellness plan in order to keep their body functioning at its best. Similar to the way you go to a dentist regularly to make sure everything is alright with your teeth. It is much better to fix a problem before it becomes a burden on your life. The important thing here though is that it is your decision.
Besides a warm, friendly, caring, and family-focused environment with lots of empathy, compassion, patience, and support, new patients to our centre can also expect the following:
On your first visit to our office you will be welcomed with a warm smile from our office staff. You’ll be asked to fill out forms which will help us gain some information about you, your health concerns, and wellness goals.
Your chiropractorwill then discuss your situation with you and ask some specific questions regarding your health concerns to determine if chiropractic care may be of benefit to you. If the doctor feels they can help you, they will let you know. Nothing will be done in our office without your consent.
After a thorough consultation with the doctor, you will have a complete examination. Our Centre has a great complement of diagnostic tools which allow us to fully evaluate the unique needs of each patient. These tools include posture and gait scanning, surface EMG and thermography, as well as digital x-ray systems to assure a thorough and comprehensive assessment of your particular concerns.
Report of Findings
Once all the information and examinations have been performed, the doctor will sit down with you to talk about the results of each of the tests performed. They’ll explain the different treatment options available for you, the benefits of each, as well as how they will help you reach your health goals. They will also outline the frequency and duration of treatments to expect as well as the financial obligations of each. We ensure that you are given time to discuss your options and have any questions or concerns answered before beginning care in our office.
The First (and Future) Treatments
Most of our patients begin to see results from the very first adjustment. Our chiropractic treatments are as varied as our patients; gentle enough for newborns, interactive enough for kids (they love us) or strong enough to have an effect on the largest linebacker. Depending on your need and comfort level, your treatment will be just what you are looking for. Our patient-centered, non-rushed, education-driven philosophy encourages questions from our patients and we never set a time limit on your appointment. Just call and let us know how long you need and we’ll look forward to providing you our utmost attention and care.
What Makes us Special?
Scheduled Progress Checks: Along your journey back to optimal health you will have many Progress Examinations. These provide a time for both the chiropractor and patient to check in to determine that recovery is progressing as expected, that you are happy with the care you are receiving, if you have any new concerns or questions, or simply to give each other a high five and continue on with your care.
Education: We believe in the importance of education, that you should know the why and how of your care, as well as other ways to improve your health. As a patient in our centre you will have many options to become motivated and encouraged towards better health.
